Words- Destroyers or Builders

January 11, 2008 / by angied

Words

harmonious heart sounds
or
clanging chaos

reverberating
becoming
remaining
impacting

Skipping stones across a tranquil body of water can supply a simple pleasure, but if one is to look closely a lesson can be learned from this.

When a stone begins its travel, little ripples flow outward following the path of the stone, broadening continuously. Words uttered mimic the simple action of the skipping stone. Just as the force of the stone is determined by the power we put into the toss, the impact of the words is proportionate to the purpose. When we make hateful comments, we can destroy confidence or hurt someone's feelings. On the other hand, kind words will have the opposite effect. We may soothe a person's troubled spirit or comfort a broken heart. As the stone is forever a part of the body of water, words once spoken live on as a damaging or inspiring influence. Words edify or demolish, engender calm or distress, promote peace or war. Words may become weapons of mass destruction or tools of harmony and beauty.

We should be mindful of the powerful quality that words possess and the consequences that thoughtless speech produces.

I needed this little reminder. Adults can say the darnedest things. (A new TV series?)[WINK][THUMBUP]

I enjoyed the one with the kids saying the darnedest things. They are too funny. Nothing is secret or sacred to them.[LOL]

I doubt that you need to be reminded. I so enjoy reading about you and yours each day and much is revealed about you in your writing, You have a great sense of humor even in times of troubles.[SMILE]

This brought back memories of a poem I had to memorize and recite for school! Thanks for that. Hope all is well and that you enjoy your movie!

The poem is one that I have written. I keep a journal that I write my poetry in when I have an inspiration. Thank you.[SMILE]

Funny, I can remember the nicest things that have been said to me, but I can also remember the meanest, most hurtful things that have been said to me. I can see the results of nicely spoken words in myself and others, and I can see the results of hateful words. I try so hard to be careful before I speak. (One of my 2008 resolutions...you may have seen it in my blog...is 'Think first. Speak or act later.' Something thought out may be the best way to achieve a goal without having to live with regrets. [SMILE] By the way, I love the poetry. [SMILE][HEART]

Thank you, I keep a journal close that I can write in when inspired. They are amature, but I enjoy trying to say much with few words. You are right about remembering good and bad comments.[SMILE]

    Again a great post Angie.[THUMBUP]
I love coming and reading the word's you post each day..[HEART]
Word's are kinda like my Gramma told me.
Take a pillow of feather's and shake them out a window on a windy day.
Then go out and try to put all the feather's back into pillow.
Feather's are like word's,once said, hurtful or not, they can never be taken back..
However a kind word can have an awesome impact...
    Good word's of wisdom Angie..[SMILE]

What a wonderful image and such wisdom from Gramma. I can see us trying to catch those pesky feathers fluttering in the wind.[LOL]
